Five Ways to Celebrate Halloween 2020
Happy Halloween! It’s getting to be that spooky time of year. We know celebrating this year won’t be the same as it was last year, so we wanted to put together some ideas on how to make this holiday a fun one for you and your loved ones.
- Costume Contest
Have a Halloween costume contest with your friends and family! Choose a date before Halloween and maybe choose a theme you all want to follow or a selection of tools to use. Then, on Halloween, post or share your project online or in a group chat. It can be as simple or as complex as you want, but even a simple costume can be fun to put together. You could even have rounds with a tournament style elimination for a more competitive edge.
- Pumpkin Carving Competition
Using social media or video chat, why not have a pumpkin carving competition with your friends and family! You can either carve together over video chat, or simply set a deadline and reveal your masterpiece in a group chat or online! You can also dress up for the occasion and wear a fun, DIY Halloween costume with things from around the house. Be creative and don’t forget, it’s all about having fun! - Spooky Movie Marathon
Get in that Halloween mood with a scary movie marathon. You can set up a movie marathon with friends near and far by using a service to sync streamed movies online! That way, you can all watch the same movies together. Or you can also video chat together and then all start the movie at the same time. Prepare themed snacks to have along with it, or just enjoy some regular ol’ snacks and leave the scaring to the movie!
- Ghost Stories
To really get into the season, try to find a selection of your favorite ghost stories, new and old to give you that suitably spooky feeling. There are several horror themed podcasts and books to listen to and there are a number of scary story anthologies published for some late-night spooky reading. Give yourself a fright with some horror serial stories, or a murder- book, or set up a ghost story reading with friends and family to share in the fun!
- Halloween Games
With games like werewolf, charades, and a murder mystery, there are plenty of ways to play games with others no matter the distance! Setting up a murder mystery can seem daunting but playing host to a murder mystery is a really fun project where everyone gets to play their part, and everyone is working to solve the mystery the fastest. Add in snacks and drinks and you have a party! You can also try themed trivia, a “guess how many” game, or Halloween bingo!
